Authors Read and Mingle at Bibliotheque

On March 31, 34 people chatted, ate, and drank together at  Bibliotheque in Soho as MWA-NY authors read from their work.

Lori Robbins, who has been a professional dancer, read excerpts from books in her On Pointe and Master Class series. James McCrone, who lives in Philadelphia, read from his latest book, Witness Tree, “a rural noir.” Jeff Somers read from Five Funerals, which was inspired by Edward Gorey’s The Gashlycrumb Tinies. Elizabeth Crowens read the opening chapter of Round Up the Unusual Suspects, set on a Hollywood soundstage. And Gary Cahill’s tale limned “the decaying life of a decorated but now out-of-control NYPD captain.”

Bibliotheque is the bookstore/bar/restaurant at 54 Mercer St. in SoHo; our event was held downstairs in the wine cellar. Authors whose books are not currently carried by the bookshop brought books for Bibliotheque to sell on consignment.

Four more reading-and-mingling evenings are scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday June 24, Thursday July 30, Tuesday Sept. 29, and Thursday October 29. If you are an MWA member in the New York chapter, and would like to read at one of these upcoming evenings, please email M.C. Hal Glatzer at info@mwany.org, and put AUTHOR TO READ in the subject heading.
