The acclaimed CrimeCONN conference, which MWA-NY is proud to co-sponsor, was held at the beautiful Ferguson Library in Stamford, CT on May 16. The theme was “Pick Your Poison.” MWA-NY President Daniella Bernett gave a welcome address and also served as a panelist.

The keynote speaker was New York Times bestselling author Alafair Burke, who provided insights into her writing, collaboration with Mary Higgins Clark and her days as a prosecutor. Burke was interviewed by John Valeri, mystery reviewer and online host.

Hank Phillippi Ryan led a wonderful writing workshop. Meanwhile, the fascinating panels explored the mystery genre in depth. The topics ranged from the influence of music and sports to how authors’ passions, interests and curiosity make crime fiction entertaining; setting; and strong women protagonists with dark secrets.

Panelists included bestselling authors Reed Farrel Coleman, Tessa Wegert, Kate White, Hilary Davidson, Peter Blauner, Tom Straw, Gabi Coatsworth, Liv Constantine, Charles Salzberg, Elise Hart Kipness and Jim Fusilli, as well as chief medicolegal investigator Michelle Clark and forensic pathologist Dr. Shana Straub.
